Odd-Rule Cellular Automata on the Square Grid

چکیده
An “odd-rule” cellular automaton (CA) is defined by specifying a neighborhood for each cell, with the rule that a cell turns ON if it is in the neighborhood of an odd number of ON cells at the previous generation, and otherwise turns OFF. We classify all the odd-rule CAs defined by neighborhoods which are subsets of a 3× 3 grid of square cells. There are 86 different CAs modulo trivial symmetries. When we consider only the different sequences giving the number of ON cells after n generations, the number drops to 48, two of which are the Moore and von Neumann CAs. This classification is carried out by using the “meta-algorithm” described in an earlier paper to derive the generating functions for the 86 sequences, and then removing duplicates. The fastestgrowing of these CAs is neither the Fredkin nor von Neumann neighborhoods, but rather one defined by “Odd-rule” 365, which turns ON almost 75% of all possible cells.

Edge Detection Based On Nearest Neighbor Linear Cellular Automata Rules and Fuzzy Rule Based System
Edge Detection is an important task for sharpening the boundary of images to detect the region of interest. This paper applies a linear cellular automata rules and a Mamdani Fuzzy inference model for edge detection in both monochromatic and the RGB images. In the uniform cellular automata a transition matrix has been developed for edge detection. The Results have been compared to the ...

متن کاملGeneric parity generators design using LTEx methodology: A quantum-dot cellular automata based approach
Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is a prominent paradigm that is considered to continue its dominance in thecomputation at deep sub-micron regime in nanotechnology. The QCA realizations of five-input Majority Voter based multilevel parity generator circuits have been introduced in recent years. However, no attention has been paid towards the QCA instantiation of the generic (n-bit) even and ...

متن کاملAn Introduction To Artificial Life
Can a machine reproduce? This question was posed by mathematician John von Neumann in the early 1950s and explored by him before his untimely death in 1957. Specifically he asked whether an artificial machine could create a copy of itself, which in turn could create more copies (in analogy to nature). Von Neumann wished to investigate the logic necessary for reproduction. He was not interested,...
